Privacy Policy

Polare’s revenue comes from the sale of a software service to users, and the cost of hardware to enable that service. We do not make revenue from selling user data. You are not the product we are selling.


Our data privacy principles:

1.       We will not sell or show you advertising

2.       We will not sell or show any data we collect to others for advertising purposes.

3.       We will not sell or show any of your personal data to third parties without your consent.

4.       We will delete all data we hold on you at any point if you request it.

We believe your data belongs to you. While we collect data about your energy and electricity usage, we are custodians of that data. We do not own it. Our ethos is to make that data as transparent to you as possible, so you can use it to make the best decisions for you.

Payment details (information relating to your credit, debit or online payment accounts) are managed securely within the Amazon user account and are not visible to Polare.

The order number and account are visible to Polare when an order is made.

Payment details (information relating to your credit, debit or online payment accounts) are managed securely within the Stripe payment platform and are not visible to Polare.


Browsing metadata

We view metadata to understand user activity on website; links to our marketing campaigns. Metadata can identify your browser, operating system and browser activity while on our site.


Where possible we minimise collection and storage persistence of this data. High-detail user data (e.g. electricity consumption; temperature; time of use) is stored in temporary databases which are regularly overwritten, the data is aggregated to provide activity information to the user.


INFORMATION USED FOR THE POLARE SERVICE

We collect the following specific information, and how it relates to the savings Service provided by Polare. This section does not include personal or billing information which is used as normal for account creation and payment processing.

Geolocation         

The location and country of your property. This allows us to establish locally accurate weather, temperature, market, legal, and regulatory information which contribute towards your electricity prices.

Property            

Characteristics of your property and rooms. This allows us to model your property and rooms for heat-transfer characteristics. These are used by the Service to accurately predict the time schedule required to maintain the temperature you require.

Timing                 

Time of operation of your heating / cooling. This is programmed by you to set the time periods you want your devices to be active or  inactive.

Environmental     

The local temperature and humidity in your space. This allows us to establish when your set target temperatures have been achieved.

Electrical              

The power consumption and electrical status of devices attached through a Controller. This allows us to generate schedules which save you money on your electricity consumption.

Tariff                    

(Optional) Information about your electricity supplier or tariff, which improves the accuracy of our Service and gets you maximum savings.

HOW WE COLLECT YOUR DATA

We collect your data through the following platforms:

Polare app (iOS & Android)

            Polare controller(s)

Payment processor interactions (Stripe, Amazon)


Our types of data collection include:

Opt-in             Wherever possible data we collect is explicitly opt-in from you as a user. You will enter this data within our forms on the website or app, or give permissions on your phone. You will be made aware of what data we are asking for and your permission to use it. We will use this only for the limited purposes given.

Required          Some data we collect is required for the operation of the Service. Your consent to this data collection is explicitly required, and cannot be opted out of. This includes approval to process your data, billing information, and information about your property and location. All of these are required for the Service or payment.

Optional          Some data we ask for is optional or opt-out. You decide whether you want to give us this information. This includes information about your electricity supply, personal information, contact details This information can be used to make the Service more accurate but is not required for its operation.

Implied           This applies to browsing metadata and your phone, where the settings or permissions you have enabled will dictate the operation of the app or website, and data they are able to collect.


WHERE IS MY INFORMATION HELD

We exclusively use EU / EEA based servers to comply with GDPR requirements on international transfer of data. If you are a UK citizen, this also complies with the law under the UK GDPR. At this point we do not transfer data to the US or any non-European country.


HOW CAN I DELETE MY PERSONAL INFORMATION

Polare stores your information on our servers until:

1.       You stop becoming a customer, at which point you will have the option to delete your full account, or lock the account (you stop paying for the service but the data remains so you can restart it at a later date).

2.       You edit or amend the information you have given us.

3.       You delete optional information which you have given us.

4.       It is overwritten and aggregated as part of our normal processes. This applies to your environmental and electrical usage data, which would otherwise be too large to hold. Aggregation means, for example, we will retain your monthly average consumption rather than daily data.

2, 3 and 4 above will all still be deleted as usual if you stop becoming a customer and request it, as in 1.


You may seek confirmation that we are processing personal information about you; request access to your personal information; or ask that we correct, amend or delete your personal information. You may object to our processing any of your information at any time, but if this includes information required for the Service, you will be unable to continue using the Service as a result.

OTHER PLATFORMS WE USE

We do not design or control the data collected by these technologies, but the platforms we use may also collect some data as part of their operation. This includes browsing metadata and the settings you have enabled for cookies and other technologies. Where this data is collected, you will have to give or have given consent to those companies.


These include:

Android, iOS and the Google Play and Apple App Store.

Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and other social media platforms.

Amazon.com Inc. are used for our web-hosting and user verification systems.

Google Inc. are used for geolocation and translation.

Stripe Inc. are used for secure payment processing and billing.

Zoho Corporation are used for our customer support portal, ticketing and chat.

Brevo Inc. are used for managing our marketing email lists.
