Polare App (iOS and Android)

Polare uses Profiles to process information about your space, location, devices and usage in a way that is simple for you to manage. A Profile is like a preset in household appliances or some software: it allows your Controller to understand the physical space that it is operating in. This allows us to model that space, so we can accurately calculate your required electricity consumption.

Setup ( ) is where you provide the information that goes into a Profile. You can do this during first time setup after registering your Controller, or subsequently:
  1.   You will be prompted after registering a new controller to set up a Profile.
  2.   Tap the Profiles icon ( ) in the app bottom menu bar at any time to create a new Profile or edit a current one.
  3.   On the My Controllers screen ( ) if a controller has been registered but your account has no Profiles, you will see a Setup prompt. Tap the controller picture to go to its options, and tap the Setup button.

Setup: Property

We ask for the following information about your Property. This refers to the physical house, apartment, office or property you are using the Polare controller in.
  1. Country. The country it is in. We ask this because for some places on borders, maps aren't perfectly accurate, but you definitely know which country you live in.
  2. Google Maps.  The exact latitude, longitude and elevation (height) of your property. Select the location of your property on Google Maps.
GOOGLE MAPS
Notes
Please be as accurate as you can. For example, if you live in a large apartment building, select the location of your apartment. This matters because we use this pin to calculate both elevation (height in meters) and the shade or sun exposure of your location. Both of these have a big impact on the temperature where you live.
  1. Type of Property. What this property is used for: a rental, your home, or a business premises.
  2. Electricity Tariff.  The type of electricity tariff your home uses. We give the following options:
    1. Dynamic - the kWh price you pay varies by hour or half-hour.
    2. 3-Period - you pay three difference prices for 3 different periods during the day.
    3. 2-Period - you pay a different price at night than during the day.
    4. Fixed - you pay the same kWh price every hour of the day
    5. I don't know
TARIFF TYPES
Notes
Find out more about what each of these types means on our website.
Please note that if you have a Fixed tariff, the Polare service will not work for you. Submit a ticket for Returns if you have already bought a Polare controller.
If you answer "I don't know", we will ask you to find out. This information is critical to providing the Polare service for you.

Setup: Device

We ask for the following information about your Device. This refers to the attached heater, air conditioner or other device you want to control with your Polare controller:
  1. Type. The type of device. Select from the list. This list is based on the suitability of the controller you are setting up the Profile for.
  2. Wattage.  The maximum wattage of the device. Look for:

    2500W      or      2.5kW

    You can usually find this:
    1. Printed on the device itself, often near the logo
    2. On a device information sticker or printed information section (something like "max 2500W")
    3. In the device instructions manual
    4. In an online manual for your device model

We ask for the following information about your Room. This refers to the room you will be using your Polare controller and attached Device in:
  1. Type. The type of room. Select from the list.
  2. Dimensions.  The length and width of the room, in meters. Please be as accurate as you can, but we don't require laser-measured dimensions. A tape measure or pacing is fine (e.g. 2 x 3m, or 2.5 x 2.9m)
  3. External walls.  How many walls of this Room are between the outside of your property? This matters because external walls (a wall between the outside) lose heat differently to internal walls (a wall between another room).
  4. Windows.  How many windows does the room have; and how many of these windows get regular sunlight.
WINDOWS WITH REGULAR SUNLIGHT
Notes
If a window is in shade for most of the day, either because of its orientation or because a tree or building blocks the sun, it does not get regular sunlight. We understand you don't think about these things, but you know your room better than anyone else, so please give us your best estimate.
  1. Floor.  Which floor of the building is this on. We only give three options, but we recognise that many apartment buildings will have tens of floors. For the purposes of our heat calculations, we only consider:
    1. Top - the very top floor, so above this is the outside air.
    2. Ground - the very ground floor, so below this is the ground.
    3. Middle - there is an occupied floor above and below this floor - so every floor in between the Top and Ground. This applies to every apartment floor from 2-20 or beyond.

Setup: Names

For each Property, Device, and Room you will have the option to give it a name. This is so you can easily identify it later, and makes swapping your controller between rooms quicker and easier.
You can also give this Profile a name, so you can identify it later. For example:

      Summer AC Jane's Bedroom
      Oil Heater John's Office

If you do not select a name, a default name will be provided based on the information you have given.

Setup: Settings

Find out more about Settings

If this is the first time you have set up this Profile, you will also be asked to set the initial controller Settings. These will allow you to set the following controls:
  1. Day of the week ( Select one or more days of the week that you want to apply these Settings to.
You can set up to 7 daily presets, or select groups of days (e.g. Monday to Friday, and Saturday/Sunday). Once you have set the Active Hours and Temperature for your first selection, just tap the additional days at the top you want to make a new preset for, and you'll be able to set the Active Hours and Temperature for those days separately.
  1. Active Hours ( Select a period(s) of time during the day that you want the Room to be at the temperature you want. You can select up to two contiguous periods between 00:00 and 23:59.
Alert
NOTE: Remember this is not the times you want the heater or air conditioner to be on, but the times you want your Room to be at the temperature you want (probably the times that the Room is occupied). Our AI will work out the optimal times for your device to be on to achieve this temperature.
  1. Target Temperature ( Select the temperature you want to Room to be at during the Active period above. If you set temperatures that we calculate are not achievable with the power of your device, you will see a warning. You can still select these temperatures, but you will either see less savings or we will be unable to achieve the temperature you have asked for.
Idea
For example:
- An air conditioner cannot heat a room, and a heater cannot cool it.
- A small fan heater cannot heat a large room on its own.
